Let's Dance!
Watch on YouTube:
This is my energetic flute piece inspired by the popular dance crazes of the 1940's, 50' and 60's.

These include:
Rumba
Mambo
Samba
Foxtrot
Swing
The Jitterbug
The Lindy Hop
The Balboa -
and more!

They were exciting times for young people living in these decades, with lots of new-found freedoms of expression.

Did you know?

The RUMBA...

It's a Cuban dance, merging African and Latin styles.
With small steps in a confined space, a sensual roll of the hips created a dance of passionate appeal.
The rumba was first brought to the U.S. in the 1930s; in the 1940s it was accepted as a popular provocative ballroom dance.
The seductive Latin rhythms made it a favourite as a soothing counterpoint to the turbulence of the war years.

The JITTERBUG...

Many believed that the fast and up beat tempo that this style encouraged was a danger to teens, in that they were growing up too fast!
This dance style is very energetic and requires the use of your entire body.
This style was so fast and loud that many countries found it to be offensive.
For example, many dance halls in Britain posted signs that did not allow the Jitterbug to be danced.
This style later became rock and roll dancing.
